Champions League Round Up

| Wednesday, December 9, 2009
Every season, some teams rise to the top, when top teams hit rock bottom. This season was no different in the Champions League, the second greatest football(soccer) event of the year.

Group APldPts
Bordeaux616
Bayern610
Juventus68
Maccabi Haifa60

Juventus 1 - 4 Bayern

Haifa 0 - 1 Bordeaux

Spot: Juve shocked me in the last game, as I hoped for their returned to the European arena. Haifa joined the 0s club. Bordeaux was not the major threat in this group but they proved to be tough and finished 1st.

Group BPldPts
Man Utd613
CSKA610
Wolfsburg67
Besiktas64

Wolfsburg 1 - 3 Man Utd

Besiktas 1 - 2 CSKA

Spot: The legendary Owen showed some of his skills from the past, against the German champions, as Besiktas couldn't follow up their Old Trafford shock last matchday. No real surprises here too.

Group CPldPts
Real Madrid613
Milan69
Marseille67
Zurich64

Zurich 1 - 1 Milan

Marseille 1 - 3 Real Madrid

Spot: Real carries Milan to the next round. As Ronaldo struck one of his signature freekicks, Milan was struggling in Switzerland. Albiol gave Madrid the break they needed and Ronaldo had the final say, they cruised to the next round with Milan.

Group DPldPts
Chelsea614
Porto612
Atletico Madrid63
APOEL63

Chelsea 2 - 2 APOEL

Atletico 0 - 3 Porto

Spot: This is the ABSOLUTELY second MOST SHOCKING group. Porto, lost a lot of blood, when they lost Lucho and Lisandro Lopez this season but they impressed everybody more than the highly talented Atletico. By the way, nothing seems to be going their way. So Aguero, Forlan, dudes step up or you're going down.

Group EPldPts
Fiorentina615
Lyon613
Liverpool67
Debrecen60

Liverpool 1 - 2 Fiorentina

O.Lyon 4 - 0 Debrecen

Spot: This actually IS the MOST shocking standings. Rafa Benitez, the CL specialist, fucked it up this year, and in the league as well. Rafa's head? I am sure its pretty safe. But you never know with KOP. He might walk alone before the end of this season.

Group FPldPts
Barcelona611
Inter69
Rubin Kazan66
Dinamo Kiev65

Dinamo Kiev 1 - 3 Barcelona

Inter 2 - 0 Rubin Kazan

Spot: This probably was the most exciting group as no team qualified for the next round until last game. But Barcelona and Inter were favorites of the group, they delivered their duties. Messi, I love you!

Group GPldPts
Sevilla613
Stuttgart69
Unirea Urziceni68
Rangers62

Stuttgart 3 - 1 Unirea Urziceni

Sevilla 1 - 0 Rangers

Spot: The weakest group in CL. No real surprises. No comments. Haven't watched the new Stuttgart yet. I hope Pogrebnyak is going crazy over there.

Group HPldPts
Arsenal613
Olympiacos610
Standard65
AZ64

Olympiakos 1 - 0 Arsenal

Standard 1 - 1 AZ

Spot: Sinan Bolat!!! The Standard goalkeeper hit a perfect header in the 5th minute of the stoppage time into the net, upsetting Alkmaar. The rising star of the Belgian team continues to rise. Arsenal delivered the duty by leading the group.

Dude, I think APOEL qualified for the Europa League not Atletico. Forza Fiorentina! We beat Liverpool at home and away , I expect la Viola to qualify for the quarter finals at least.
